Is selling game products legal?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In Germany, hunters may sell the game they have shot, and products made from it, directly to end consumers. The meat must have been properly inspected (for species subject to trichinella testing) and the food-law requirements must be met. Small quantities may be handed over straight from the hunting ground or the cold store; larger quantities and shipping are subject to stricter rules, for example approval under EU Regulation 853/2004.

Is selling game products free of tax?

Accepted Answer

Not as a rule. Handing over small quantities to end consumers is covered by a tax exemption under section 13 of the German Income Tax Act (income from agriculture and forestry), as long as the proceeds stay below certain thresholds. As soon as the selling takes on commercial traits — regular, with the intention of making a profit, beyond your own needs — income tax and possibly VAT can apply. When in doubt, talk to a tax adviser.

What is the trained person declaration for?

The trained person declaration (also called a game accompanying document) records where a carcase came from. It states the species, the date of the shot, the hunting ground, the weight and the results of the official meat inspection. It is mandatory once game meat enters the trade and serves traceability along the food chain. In Waidgut you can attach trained person declarations directly to a carcase and generate them as a PDF whenever you need one.

What’s the difference between butchering and making from stock?

Butchering is the first step after the shot: the carcase is broken down into cuts and finished products. “Make from stock” turns cuts you already have into new products — say, sausage from three deer. To do that, select the items in stock and choose “Make”.

What are carcases, cuts and finished products?

Accepted Answer

A carcase is a single animal you have shot, a roe deer for example. Cuts are what you get when the carcase is broken down: haunch, saddle, fillet, liver. Finished products come from processing those cuts further, such as salami, goulash or schnitzel. A cut can also be sold as a finished product if it is handed over without any further processing.

How should I maintain my product categories?

Waidgut separates cuts, which come out of breaking down the carcase, from finished products, which come out of further processing. It works best to set up the cuts your usual butchering produces first, and then the finished products you make from them or sell as they are. New accounts already come with a set of standard products that you can adapt. Keep the list manageable — you can add products or switch them off at any time under master data.

How do I invite customers?

Under Customers you can generate a personalised invitation link. Send that link to your customers by message or email. Through it, they see your current range — the products you have released, with prices — and can send you order requests. You stay in control of which products are visible at all times.

Question 8

What does hunting pressure in the heatmap mean?

Accepted Answer

Hunting pressure shows you where you have hunted particularly often. The data comes from the sits in your hunting log: the more sits at a spot, the stronger the colour on the map. That helps when planning the season — ground under high pressure may need a rest, while less hunted areas deserve more attention.

Does Waidgut work offline?

Accepted Answer

Your data lives on your device and syncs as soon as you are back online. The core areas such as dashboard, hunting log, hunting ground, carcases, processing and stock keep working without reception, including logging new game. Individual detail pages you have never opened before need a brief connection once. With the offline maps in Pro you store your hunting ground’s map for use without reception; the satellite view requires an internet connection. You can see the sync status any time in Settings under “Synchronisation”.

Where is my data stored?

Accepted Answer

All data is held on servers in the EU (Supabase, hosted in Frankfurt). Nothing is passed on to servers outside the EU. Waidgut is fully GDPR compliant, and you can export your data at any time.
